Alexander Archibald

Good Afternoon. I have been searching for a birth record of this chap for a while now and getting frustrated ! According to Census records, he was born in Haddington around 1847 and was married to Elizabeth Craig. His parents were Thomas Archibald and Euphemia Robertson. I have a record of his death dated 1903 while at work in the Clyde Colliery, Hamilton. I have tried Scotlands People and Ancestry, but no luck - either that, or I have a massive blind spot!

Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Maybe he was born out of wedlock or before wedlock - do you know when Euphemia married?

I would check under Robertson if the dates are iffy.

Have you got him on census as a child with parents?  I can't see him before marriage.

Thomas and Euphemia were married in Tranent during 1842 as Alexander's birth was before 1855 it may have not been recorded

there are no recorded births for children of  Euphemia and Thomas I have found these 2 entries on Family search for the 1851 and 1861 census for an Alexander

There's also a marriage for a Thomas Archibald to a Marion McLeod in 1851 Tranent
Could Euphemia have died between 1847 and 1851 an Alexander was raised by someone else?

Thank you all very much for your replies. Thomas and Euphemia are named as Alexander's parents on his death certificate, and I have Alexander and Elizabeth on the 1891 census in Hamilton. Perhaps his birth wasn't recorded, or as has been suggested, he was born Robertson. More digging around required I think! I will post as soon as I find out anything more.
