UPDATE.
Euphemia Archibald/Robertson was indeed in Calton Jail in 1850. She was convicted of fraud and sentenced to six months. Her crime was to visit various grocery shops and telling them that she had just moved to the area and that her husband wouldn't get paid until the following week. She would then get the goods "on tick", but then of course, she never went back. It was all food items, some times very small amounts, so I don't think she was selling anything on. Perhaps it was done out of necessity. Wish I could find out the tale behind it all!
