Hello Sandra , I notice that young Ivy aged 7 went out to Canada with her dad William Henry Prout in March 1911 but his wife and two other children went out in June 1911 . Do you think that " Bonus Allowed " might have something to do with it ?
Regards
Alan

Hi Alan,

It was fairly typical that when families crossed the pond, 1 or 2 would arrive to settle themselves,
and the rest of the family would follow. I don't think the British Bonus had any bearing on their
split sailings.

With Ivy, a domestic, aged 15, not 7, she had a job to come to. Beside her name on that 1911 manifest is "CGEA" which is Canadian Government Employment Agent.  These agents received a commission from the government for placing domestics/labourers with employers.

Ah , thank you , I wondered what that abbreviation stood for and makes sense , I should have known she was 15 , not sure where the 7 came from .If she was 7 I imagined William not being able to work .

Alan
