Look up Request for Birth/Baptism about 1840 Susan Smith of Monmouthshire
« on: Monday 13 November 17 20:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking to find a Baptism record for Susan Smith born about 1840 in Monmouthshire... and also searching for her in the 1861 Wales census which I have been unable to find.....I would welcome any help with this.

So far I have found Susan Smith in the following censuses...

My Susan Smith is shown in England 1911 census age 70 born about 1840 in Mega, Monmouthshire then in the England Census 1901 Age 60 Birth Place Penett, Monmouthshire.
In England 1891 Census shows Susan aged 52 birth place Wales.
In England 1881 Census shows Susan aged 41 birth about 1841 Risca, Monmouthshire.
In Wales 1871 Census shows Susan aged 31birth about 1840 born Risca, Monmouthshire.

Thanks

Elizlloyd

you don't give the names of her parents to help the search. There is a baptism in Penhow 7 Sep 1840 for Susan Smith dau of Vere, labourer, and Eliza of Penhow. Also Sarah, her sister on the same day.
Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)

Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)

Hi osprey,

I was just going by the information (shows various towns where she was born but dos'nt mention Penhow.) on the censuses which I have from 1911 to 1871.  It dos'nt show her parents.on these.

But I think from your information that this must be the baptism for Susan Smith and Sarah maybe they were twins.. ??

Appreciate your post reply.

Thanks

Hi keyboard86

Thank you for your reply and yes Susan Smith did marry Henry Gold (but his surname was mistranscribed it was supposed to be Gould) qtr 1857 Newport 11a 244.  Its a pity of Findmypast that it dosnt show a copy of the Marriage Register and show which parish Susan Smith was from..

Hi knew the family rang bells, why on your Vere Smith married Elizabeth Thomas thread do you state that Susan Smith b 1840 Penhow is your GG Grandmother?
If as you state she married Henry Gould/Gold then why have you not by the looks of it purchased the marriage certificate, it may not have occured in a church it could have been a civil service?
Sarah and Susan were twins, both registered Dec qtr 1840 v26 page 81 Newport mmn Thomas  but oddly Susan registered as ANN.

Hi keyboard86

Thank you for your post reply, and letting me know that Susan and Sarah were twins sad that Sarah died, and yes agree with you I will send off for a copy of the Marriage Certificatefor Susan Smith and Henry Gold/Gould as I had forgotten to do that appreciate your help and on the Vere Smith married to Elizabeth Thomas thread I thought that Susan was their daughter as she was the only one I could find relating to the information in the parishes of birth on the censuses which I have on her.  Anyway once I receive a copy of this marriage certificate copy I shall post back on here where my Susan Smith was born and any other information it shows.

Thanks
Elizlloyd

the marriage cert will not show where she was born, just where she was living at the time of her marriage. It will give father's name & occupation though.
