Have you got his wife's death certificate - who registered that, does that say whether she is the wife or widow of Henry?

Just found Louisa's probate died 6th November 1923 - says she is a widow, so that puts his death between 1911 and 1923 probably in Reading.

This narrows things down quite nicely; thank you!. I've done the usual checks within these dates, and still seem to be missing it if its there.

These look to be the only possibles - have you ruled them out even though the ages are slightly out, not unusual as it depended who registered the death and how well they knew the person.

Deaths Mar 1913
Hunt    Henry    75    Reading    2c   484

Deaths Jun 1922
Hunt    Henry G    75    Reading    2c   430

I would say the death entry for Henry G. Hunt 75   Reading  June qtr.1922 is your man (bc.1847).

Henry Hunt was indeed the son of Henry Hunt and Mary Blackman but he was born Sept.qtr.1842 Kingsclere - Kingsclere is Hampshire, not Berkshire, as far as records go.

He was in Kingsclere, Hampshire in 1851 (8yrs old) and 1861 (aged 19) with his family.   He married in 1867 giving age as 24 (correct) and father as Henry.

However, he then appears to lose 4 years after his marriage and from 1871 through to 1911 he's either bc.1847 or bc.1848.   Indeed, in 1881 he's listed as George H. Hunt.

So, going by the circa birth year of 1847 which he gave from 1871, plus using 'George' in 1881, I would say that the 1922 death of your Henry is the Henry G. Hunt bc.1847 in Reading.

I agree, Annette, I think that is the most likely, especially as his age changes on the later censuses. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a probate record for him, otherwise that may have confirmed it if he died at the same address as his wife.
