Here is Mary Cole

DUNCAN    Andrew Henry Farrell    COLE    Mary    17 Jan 1884      Wynberg, St. John Anglican Marriages 1848-1926

From your own submission:

COLE Mary Cole  Born 27 Oct 1856  Baptised 1 Oct 1856
At Port Elizabeth Cape of Good Hope, South Africa
Father George Montague  Mother    Matilda Freeland
At St. Mary's Port Elizabeth

and why did George Montage Cole go to Australia ..... to be with his daughter and son in law. From Find My Past-

Duncan   Andrew Henry Farrell   1855   —   1855   South Australia Births 1842-1928   Port Adelaide, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Bingo

I am puzzled why you think his dau was in Australia. According to 's Andrew's obituary Andrew  settled and died in South Africa.

So Mary DUNCAN nee COLE is possibly George Montagu COLE's who died in 1885, daughter?  Surely there has to be a connection for her to be noted on his probate papers.

I think the South Australian birth registration also confirms the same man is her husband ;).

I didn't bother researching any further until you responded.

From my own resource not an online database.  Andrew was the eldest of four chn from his father's second marriage. Only he and two sisters were living when their mother died in 1861.

Birth registration
DUNCAN Andrew Henry Farrell
31 May 1855
Father Handasyde     Mother Ann WILLIAMS
At Port Adelaide    District Code Ade  5/178

Would be interesting to browse through these papers at the National Library of Australia.

I'll leave you to search for further information on TROVE for Handasyde DUNCAN if you are interested.

The Advertiser  6 Nov 1931
NEWS has been received in Adelaide of the death in Pretoria of Mr.Andrew Henry Farrell Duncan, a former surveyor-General of Rhodesia. He was a son of Dr. Duncan, who was the first resident medical officer at Port Adelaide.
As a boy he joined the navy and travelled the world over. After his navy days he took up surveying, and worked in many parts of South Africa. He was a close friend of Dr. Jameson. In later years life settled near Pretoria, where he had many friends. Mr. Duncan proved himself a credit to his native land, and to every country in which he worked.
He was a modest retiring man. Miss Annie J. Duncan, of North Adelaide, is a sister, and the sole survivor of this old pioneer family.

Probate record for Decima (mis transcribed as "David").

I'm having trouble reading the script answering the question "names of children"

Modified to add: I think it says "has one child Blanche Ashburnham Cole (minor).

Yes difficult to read.  When I first looked at it I thought it was 'her own child Blanche Ashburnham  Cole (Minor) but is as you read it Maddy.  Blanche's marriage record shows she was born 1864.  Good find anyway :)

Decima's probate papers "In the Intestate Estate of Decima Cole, wife of George Montagu COLE of De Beer's, New Bush"  includes statement from George, her surviving spouse, and he has signed.  He states her DD as 21 November 1872.    So George was in SA in 1872  :) and into 1873  :) when the Admon was being processed.

Looking at every message again we did prove that George Montage Cole was born in England, emigrated to South Africa, died in Australia and why he was in Australia.

We did prove that his daughter Gertrude Wynne Shaw was the last child of his first marriage to Matilda Freeland Hogben.

We did prove that Gertrude Wynne Cole, then Mrs Seymour Dallas then Mrs  Bernard Vidal Shaw was born 10 April 1861 and not 10 April 1862 as published in the 1939 Register.

Thank you everyone wherever you are.
