« on: Wednesday 03 August 05 16:42 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone may be able to look up the following person for me in the 1841 census?

John Thompson Worsdale born about 1829 in Lincoln.

Would be very much appreciated

It looks like John Worsdale, astronomer, had a famous father who died in 1828-

I thought that 1851 might be useful, giving more details of John's father-

2105/401
1 Smiths Court, Sincil St, Lincoln
John WORSDALE 48 Master? astronomer and professor of astrology, Donington Northorp*
Ruth 44 Yorks Keyingham
Mary Jane 14 At home, Lincoln
Susannah 10 Scholar, Lincoln
Ruth 7 Scholar, Lincoln
Joseph 5 Scholar, Lincoln
Elizabeth 7m Lincoln
John R SCARCLIFF** (br in law) 28 Whitesmith, Lincoln

* There are a few Don(n)ingtons and a few Northorp(e)s in Lincs.  About 8miles SW of Boston are adjacent hamlets of Donington and Northorpe.
** Not sure about this name.

IGI has
JOHN ROBINSON SCARTCLIFF
   Birth:  12 SEP 1823   Lincoln, Lincoln, England
Parents:
  Father:  GEORGE
  Mother:  HANNAH GREEN

That's great, that's more info that i thought i would be able to get!

one question, is there any way i can confirm that John Worsdale (1776-1828 the famous astronomer), is the father of the john Worsdale who is married to Ruth?
Also how can i find John and Ruth's Marriage??

Cheers!

At least, these IGI baptisms show that John (1803) had a father called John and mother Mary WRIGHT)-

1. MARY METHERINGHAM WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 26 JAN 1802 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

 2. JOHN METHERINGHAM WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 04 AUG 1800 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

 3. JNO METHERINGHAM WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 03 JAN 1803 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

 4. LIONEL WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 31 JAN 1810 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

 5. THOMAS WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 24 MAR 1804 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

 6. FRANCES WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 01 JAN 1807 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

 7. FRANCES WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 13 MAY 1813 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

 8. DENNIS WORSDALE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 17 SEP 1805 Donington-In-Holland, Lincoln, England

At some point around 1813, didn't they started putting "Father's occupation" in the baptism register?  Perhaps the batism entry of Frances Worsdale could give a clue.

Sadly, old John's burial does not appear on the National Burial Index, so we don't know where he died  :(

This also appears on the IGI

John Worsdale
 Event(s):
 Birth:  02 DEC 1766   Fullbeck, , Lincoln, England
 ~~~~~~~~
Parents:
  Father:  Thomas Worsdale  Family
  Mother:  Susanna Metheringham
    Spouse:  Mary Wright  Family
  Marriage:  02 JUL 1799
At least we now know that John the Elder could have been a Lincolnshire man.
Sadly, there may not have been too much money in being a Professor of Astrology  :(
John was buried soon after the 1851 census
23   Aug   1851   John   WORSDALE   48   Lincs   Lincoln
1861 sees his widow in Donington, Spalding district - John's birthplace-
2321/24
Church Lane, Donington
Ruth WORSDALE 54 Laundress, Yorks Keyingham
Elizabeth 10 Lincoln
