Thomas Evans family of Tynywaun Fach, Felinfoel, 1901 -- Questions
« on: Friday 17 November 17 16:44 GMT (UK) »
My family of interest is this --

Thomas Evans, head, 38, born Llanelli, Carm
Martha Evans, wife, 33, born USA
Thomas Evans, son, 11, born USA, British subject
Margaret A. Evans, dau, 9, born Penrhiwceibr, Glam
William Evans, son, 7, born Newport, Monm
John Evans, son, 5, born Llanelli, Carm
David V. Evans, son, 6 mos, born Llangendeirne, Carm

Two more children are known:  Richard Evans, born about 1903 in Wales; Catherine Jane, born 1906 in Pennsylvania.  There were possibly other children of this family, born in the USA and in Wales.

I am fairly certain I have this family traced in the USA after 1905, but I'm trying to make the Welsh connections.  They lived in Cambria County, Pennsylvania.  Thomas, the father, died there in 1911.

First question, of course, is anyone researching this family?

Second question -- where was Tyn y Waun Fach located?  Or was it Ty Nywaun?  I'm having challenges in on-line sources.

Third question -- Thomas' occupation on the Census record appears to be "Rider in Colliery (below ground)".  Have I deciphered that correctly?  If so, what was a "rider" job?

Many thanks in advance for assistance!

Thanks so much!  This is all quite excellent.

I saw the Carmarthenshire-L posts you referenced, and I've asked the GlamFHS for help locating the poster.  She apparently lives in Radyr, and I've been a GlamFHS member for decades.

The potential link to the Tynywaun Evanses in 1871 gives me a place to focus.  Off to study old maps!
