re: Kent census
« on: Friday 30 July 04 05:07 BST (UK) »
I am interested in the HENRY family in Dartford in 1861.

One family in particular is that of William and Sarah HENRY; at that time, they may have had children Elizabeth, William, George and Matthew.

Also the WAGON family in Maidstone, also in 1861. I am trying to find the family of Morgan WAGON. I think the parents may be Charles and Jane WAGON and am hoping that the 1861 census can confirm this.

If this is the correct family, I would also be interested in earlier census (1841; 1851) for Charles WAGON, who was apparently born in East Malling in about 1832.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I have the 1861 census and unfortumately there is no index. Both Dartford and Maidstone are humungously large so I can't look through them with an address.

Sorry

Would you be willing to look at an address that could potentially be the correct one??? (this would probably only apply to the 1861 census, for in each case, they would already have been married and started a family.
) There is a chance that they didn't move around as some families had to....

This is where the HENRY family (William and Sarah + children) lived in 1881 and 1891:

32 West Hill  Dartford, Kent.

For the WAGON family (Charles & Jane) it was, in 1881:

6 Melville Rd, Maidstone, Kent,

Maybe I'll be lucky but sometimes even a negative finding is a help as well!

If you don't mind looking Kate, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry Kate,

I guess misunderstood...

I thought you meant you couldn't look for if you didn't have an address, that's why I supplied a potential one.

So, neither name nor address helps in a search for someone in Maidstone or Dartford in the 1861 census, is that correct?

Does the 1861 Kent census exist with an index, or is it a lost cause?

cheers,

Hi,

Checked the Dartford one all the way to 32 West Hill, and found this family at that address and no HENRY families at all up to that part.

Samuel Landale ? head mar 53 Houseowner kent Dartford
Jane ditto wife ditto 44 ditto

RG9 467 folio 76 (or 148)

Next Maidstone which is bigger again.

Sorry for the typo. I meant I can't check without an address. Too many negatives.

Thanks Kate,

So now I know one place that the HENRYs weren't in 1861. That's something!  ;)

I appreciate that you've taken the time to look.
