In 1901 he is living at Mackey street Brightwell with father Joseph and mother Rhoda. i have not found a death yet for a Ada Dandridge. i know that 1911 he was living at North Stoke. IN 1922 a Ernst Dandridge married a Evelyn Brook. if any one has the parish records for North Stoke please can you have a look for me.

Hi Sandy

Mother is a Warwick according to the new GRO Index:

Name:                                           Mother's Maiden Surname:    Order:
DANDRIDGE, ERNEST  WILLIAM     WARWICK     Order
GRO Reference: 1894  S Quarter in WALLINGFORD  Volume 02C  Page 298   Order

Perhaps the Vicar misheard the name? Or it is a transcription error? Or she was known as Ada?

I'm afraid there's no record of Ernest marrying in North Stoke in 1922.

Albert Henry Dandridge, 24, carter married there Dec 19th 1925 to Dorothy Phyllis Higgs, 22, both otp. One of the witnesses was Joseph Edward Dandridge, carter.

Looks like Ernest probably married wherever Evelyn came from.

I would agree that the clerk at Ernest's baptism probably misheard the name Rhoda for Ada. A lot of these clerks appear to have had cloth ears - perhaps it was a prerequisite of the job!!
HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

I can find an Ernest W Dandridge and wife Evelyn departing for Melbourne in 1925 aboard the P&O ship Barrapool. He's a Farm Labourer aged 30 and she is 25.

I'm a bit confused now.

You say Ernest Dandridge was born in Brightwell in 1894 s/o Joseph & Rhoda. Where did you find his baptism giving his parents as Joseph & Ada? I've looked at the Brightwell baptism records and the nearest I can find is a baptism for Ernest Dandridge on 4 Oct 1898 s/o William & Ada! Of course, he may well have been baptised at age 4 - but the parents are totally different!

have I misunderstood? (quite likely!)
