Llanbrynmair Hen Gapel (Independent)
« on: Friday 01 December 17 07:32 GMT (UK) »
Morning all

My 5GGrandfather is baptised here  in 1767 as seen in the NonConformist register deposited in the National Archives (RG4/4068 also available online) with first entry in 1762

However, it seems that the chapel was built in 1739

If I wanted to see the BMD records created between 1739 and 1762, does anyone know which is the more likely response

a/ Ah yes, you'll find them in xyz
b/ Duh, there weren't any baptisms etc carried out there during that time
c/ Tough luck, matey. If they ever existed, they're gone now. You'll have to find other ways to get further back

If c/, can anyone offer a good starting point?

Thanks!

Normally I would suggest Powys Archives?
But there is a note in their section on Parish Registers:
See further details below but for reference: Cemais, Darowen, Dylife, Llanbrynmair, Llanwrin, Machynlleth, Penegoes original parish registers are held with Gwynedd Archives.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thanks KG

Yes, sorry, I should have said I've had a quick look at Powys, TNA and NLW but not found anything obvious.

I think that note you found refers to the Anglican church though I could easily be wrong

Hi Steve

Not sure if this is any help to you, but I do have copies of Register of Burials in LLanbrynmair  1711-1749 and 1749 - 1793.
Obviously not exactly the information you want, but it could help with burials.

I see you have Brees as one of your names, I expect this is the LLanbrynmair connection.
I too have the same name in different forms, and it is quite a challenging name to sort out the families and who's who >:(

Will gladly check any burials if you want

Cheers
Erika :)

Hi Erika, thanks for the offer and for taking an interest. Yes I'm looking at the Brees-es

Presuming those are the Anglican registers, I think I have access to them on FindMyPast (not that I found any Brees burials in a 40 yr radius search from 1751)

I think though that my lot actually resided in the Carno area rather than Llanbrynmair (as per an earlier thread of mine)

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=720622.0

Carno at least has some burials in a similar search though I've yet to pin anything down to mine

Since starting this thread I've read an analysis* of English-style surnames in MGY in the 1540-1580 Gaol files which only had one entry for Breeze (in Newtown 1575) so maybe they get a little less confusing further back  :)

Hi Steve

I don't have a FindMyPast sub so am not sure what registers they have.
I just have the burials for Llanbrynmair Hen Capel. I have ancestors buried there.
Don't know if that makes a difference?

Cheers

Morning Erika,

Shows what I knew - I didn't even realise there were burials at Hen Gapel

I'd be very grateful if you were able to have a look for Breeses

My top 3 wishlist would be

1 William Brees b ~1767, fathering children until 1807
2 Elizabeth, his wife, and mothering to 1807, birth a bit more vague 1761-74
3 William Brees, father of #1, 1767 being the only date I have for him being alive

Any mention of Esgairgareg you came across on your travels would be a bonus

Many thanks

Steve

EDIT Just had a relook at the dates you have so made appropriate crossings off  :-[

And morning, Peter

I've had a quick look

As far as I can see, there's only BMD records back to 1762, which are what I've already seen, but there are a couple of non-parish register entries that I'll be having a look at

Thanks for the nudge!
