Searching FindMyPast for "Llanbrynmair" (without the hyphen)

Baptisms, Llanbrynmair Congregational
1763, William, son of William Brees, July 27th,
1765, Martha, daughter of William Brees, Jun 25th
1767, William, son of William Brees, Esgirgareg, July 20th
Cannot spot a burial for William, bap 1763, to account for a possible second naming William (if the same family).

Searching FindMyPast for "Llanbryn-Mair (with the hyphen)
1767, Pennant, William the son of William Brees and Mary his wife was baptised January 3rd
1770, Dolg(adfan?), William son of William Brees and Mary his wife was baptised Feb 14th
These appear to be the parish registers.

Two Williams bap. 1767 Llanbrynmair- both fathers William. Checking back for father's birth/baptism of "William, Congregational", will need to distinguish?

Hi Steve

Had a look for William Brees burials after 1867, but all I found were
1789 4 July William Brees  Tafolwern  pauper
1791 8 June William Brees Tafolwern

I will carry on looking for the others as I also have burials fo 1813 - 1837

Incidently although I got these burial publications when I visited LLanbrynmair, they are available from the Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society. They have a several publications which maybe of interest to you.

Cheers
Erika :)

Afternoon hanes teulu

Yes, I've seen the FindMyPast records. Any time I work on my Welsh line, I buy a sub. It's got me where I am but no further.

There is a second William Brees (also both married to an Elizabeth  ::) ) getting their children baptised at the Congregational Church around the same time (1796 -1807).

From the censuses, I know that mine are from Carno (they are marked as Esgairgareg in the baptisms) where help on my earlier thread suggested was in the township of Derlwyn (the other couple were at Myrddyn Llwyd)

Dolg might be Dolgarregwen as that came up in the earlier thread.

Thanks

Steve

Thanks Erika, appreciate it.

There's a possibility that William's wife, Elizabeth, made the census ( at Carneddau, a place that keeps coming up as a possible location but not strongly enough for a Eureka moment)

If you find anything that contradicts that, it would be useful

Two sons married and moved in 1829 (to Meifod & Llanerchydol) so that might be a critical date (clutching at straws  :) )

Thanks again and I'll have a look at the Montgomery FHS too.

Re. "Esgairgareg", cannot find that name exactly but

http://maps.nls.uk/view/102187148

There's an "Esgair" north of Tafolwern.

It's marked on the Cynefin Tythe maps "Montgomeryshire/LLanbrynmair/142-1369"

The properties either side of "Esgair" on the Tythe map are "Newgate" and "Brynaire" - which can be seen on the 1886/7 map.

Hi there

I think that's a little far north west of my place

The best reference I have is in the 1841 census - look for David Watkin aged 30 Keyword Carno or Derlwyn

Piece:   1436
Book:   1
Folio:   5
Page Number:   2

Haven't found it yet on a tithe map though

hello Steve and others,
I have a strong family connection to Hen Gapel, and a bit of use full information. My 5th great-grandfather was Edward Howell b. 1712.,He lived in Bont Dolgadfan, I believe his residence was Cae Madog. His father was Hywel Hugh ap David, born 1675 Carno. His Sons, Richard, Edward and William, with others, formed the Methodist Church in Llanbrynmair, [period of Howell Harris]. Their aunt, Hywel's daughter Emma Howell 1717-1749, was the first wife of the Rev. Richard Tibbott, the first Pastor of said Church. Tibbott died in 1798.
Edward's grandson, William 1777-1854, m. Elinor Roberts. Her family
has more stories to tell then there is room here to explore. Needless to say, The Rev. John Roberts 1767-1834, who m. Mary Brees, dau of Richard, is the Key to what happened. Rev. John, in 1798, took the place of Rev. Richard as Minister. According to his[John's] written introduction John had to reconstruct [my words] the Churches BDM, as those written by Rev. Richard, were lost to fire. The St Alphis records are in tact, ande worth a gaze. I garnered this information from the LDS microfilms, at a local Family history center. They in turn filmed them at the NLW.
You might also chk with Montgomeryshire Genealogical
Society-- Cymdeithas Achyddol Maldwyn.
Btw I have more Brees family members in my database than I want to count. Good luck.
