John BALLINGER was born in 1808 in Down Ampney to William BALLINGER and Dinah CUSS. He married Elizabeth PAISH in May 1830 at St John the Baptist in Latin, just across the county line in Wiltshire.
In 1831 the family is "removed" from Latton to Wickwar. The 1841C finds John and Elizabeth living with their 6 children in South Cerney. Then in Dec 1842 Elizabeth BALLINGER and her six children are removed from South Cerney back to Wickwar, her husband having apparently deserted her. After this John BALLINGER apparently disappears from the records.
The 1851C finds Elizabeth and her children living in the Parish House in Wickwar, being described as a widow in receipt of parish relief. In Q1 1861, she married Charles Tanner in Chipping Sodbury as a widow. The 1861C finds Elizabeth and her new husband living in Wickwar, here Elizabeth died a few years later in 1865.
It would appear that John BALLINGER (var sp) must have died sometime between 1841 and 1861, when Elizabeth re-married. Indeed, if he believe the description of Elizabeth's condition in the 1851C, he must have died between 1841 and 1851. Yet I can find no record of his death or burial. I would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on John's fate.
