So we have two George Maycocks in Kent around the same time - one a respectable foreman and the other a sheep rustler!

So if the George married to Sophia died in Luton as Isabel said, does that leave the other one who died in the Medway area as the sheep rustler?

Pharma's George didn't necessarily stay in the Chatham area though. He could have gone anywhere

I think the 1896 Medway death is actually the same person as I found in the Wills and Admins ( where it says he died Luton).
As per previous post I agree this is not our George. I agree with JenB that we are looking for George Mycroft born 1831 in Derbyshire, son of George Mycock and Mary nee Cartwright. The 1860 Scottish marriage ( where he is G Meycock) says George was the son of  George and Mary nee Cartwright.

Jessie was also convicted and given six years but don't see any prison records for her.

In George's records against name and residence of Family or next of kin it says
'May Jane Maycock, Sarah Maycock, children of the convict, the former living in Nairn, the latter an infant with its mother Jessie Macpherson or Maycock, the Convicts wife who is under a similar sentence for the same crime presently confined in the Prison of Ayr'

I've searched high and low for George in 1871 but so far can't come up with anything convincing.

I've had a look at SP, Sarah died in Nairn Poorhouse in 1867, she died of TB.  Looks like she died without either of her parents .  I hadn't known about Sarah, only Mary Jane (aka Jessie).
