Problem with FindMyPast Parish Baptisms today?
« on: Wednesday 06 December 17 19:07 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone else noticed a problem with FindMyPast parish baptisms today?  Yesterday evening I started making notes on a family with the surname George in the parish of Gelligaer, Glamorganshire, with baptism dates in the 1750s, 60s and 70s.  Everything worked fine.  When I tried the search again this evening, with the surname George and that date range, there are no results for Gelligaer parish.  If I didn't have my notes from yesterday I would think I'd imagined it or been mistakenly looking in the wrong parish.  Could something have changed on the site which has made some of the records inaccessible?

Hi Drosybont,

I've just had a try and used NO name at all --- the earliest records coming up for that parish seem to be 1812, 1813 onwards (although there was one for 1808).

As the law changed in 1812 normally the registers are split into 2 -- up to 1812 and then from 1813 onwards.

I wonder if the earlier register has been temporarily removed for amendments/additions etc? Just a thought.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Are you sure you were actually looking at Baptisms and not the burial Index?
The BI shows George GEORGE born 1770 died 1850
Mary GEORGE born and died 1771.
Edmond WILLIAM GEORGE born and died 1774.
Edmund WILLIAM GEORGE born and died 1771.

These came up by omitting Gelligaer and searching on St. Cattwg.

There are more if you don’t put in a date range.
CHOULES All ,  COKER Harwich Essex & Rochester Kent
COLE Gt. Oakley, & Lt. Oakley, Essex.
DUNCAN Kent
EVERITT Colchester,  Dovercourt & Harwich Essex
GULLIVER/GULLOFER Fifehead Magdalen Dorset
HORSCROFT Kent.
KING Sturminster Newton, Dorset. MONK Odiham Ham.
SCOTT Wrabness, Essex
WILKINS Stour Provost, Dorset.
WICKHAM All in North Essex.

Thanks Jebber and Pennines.  I'm sure I was looking at baptisms because I was cross-checking with burials - like many families at the time some children died and siblings were given the same name.  I think as Pennines says, the earlier register must have been removed for some reason.  Hopefully temporary.

They seem to be still available on FamilySearch. I did a random search for surname George in Gelligaer 1750-1800 and got quite a few up e.g.

Only transcriptions though but it might help until FindMyPast get sorted.

I am still trying to find out from FindMyPast what has happened to these records.  Over a month ago I was told that I am "correct" and the question was being referred to the website developers.  I'm still hoping . . .

Hi

I've just had another try and nothing is coming up for baptisms. It might be worth contacting them again.

There is still no link from the Family Search records.

Thanks, Gadget, yes, I've been messaging them and will keep on doing so.  Twice I've been sent links to pages which don't seem to answer my question, today I just got a copy of my own messages sent back to me, whatever that's supposed to mean.
