Samuel GEE: born Birmingham c1836
« on: Friday 08 December 17 14:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Samuel GEE was born c1836/1837 and was imprisoned between 16/07/1851 and 20/12/1855.

His father, John GEE, a Weaver, was living in John Street, Birmingham about 1851 (prison records) but I have no other details of Samuel's immediate family.   It seems he married Emma MURFEY on 14/09/1857 at St. Peter and St. Paul, Aston (banns confirm his father John, a Weaver) and the new family appear on the 1861 England Census with 5 year old daughter, Bessy (RG9/2126/20, p.33).   He may have died 3rd quarter 1886, aged 49 (FreeBMD)

I wonder could someone confirm my information above as accurate and if at all possible add details for Census 1841, 1851, and 1871, 1881.

Thank you,

BAC3

Thank you Ciderdrinker,

It sounds a very possible answer, but, unfortunately, I cannot find the 1871 England Census entry.
Do you have a reference please?

Hello Ciderdrinker,

I finally managed to retrieve the 1871 Census and study the detail.   Sadly, I may have to reject the entry through too many differences: Emma is shown as 6 years younger (they were roughly the same age), no sign of daughter Bessy (could have died: no entry) and he was given as born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire (not Birmingham)

It is this latter detail that is oddly problematic, for as you will notice his father, according to the earlier post by lizdb, was born in Oxford.......some coincidence :-\

If it's the same couple then by 1881 they have dropped a number of years from their ages and Samuel is again from Birmingham:

Have you found a birth for Bessy?

The couple seem ideal, except too young, born in 1847 not 1837.......!!

And Bessy??

According to Ancestry's TV Advert Genealogy is easy, just put in the details.  Questionable ::)

I wondered if perhaps their ages had been transposed when the enumerator copied them over, as they otherwise seem to fit with the 1871 couple.

Bessy is a mystery as I cant find her birth.
