John Robson b.1760 Bainesley Lane, Chester le Street, Durham, England
« on: Saturday 09 December 17 04:55 GMT (UK) »
Good Afternoon

John above is my 6 times Great Grandfather and his baptism details are:

Baptisms, Chester-le-Street District - Record Number: 1113355.0
Location: Lamesley
Church: St. Andrew
Denomination: Anglican
16 Mar 1760 John Robson of Bainsley Lane, son of Robert Robson
Baptisms, Chester-le-Street District - Record Number: 1113355.0
Location: Lamesley
Church: St. Andrew
Denomination: Anglican
16 Mar 1760 John Robson of Bainsley Lane, son of Robert Robson

John most likely married Mary Burnip:

Marriage - Lamesley 19 Jan 1782  John Robson = Mary Burnip

John also probably had a brother Robert:

Baptisms, Chester-le-Street District - Record Number: 1113708.0
Location: Lamesley
Church: St. Andrew
Denomination: Anglican
4 Nov 1764 Robert Robson of Bainesley Lane, son of Robert Robson

I have estimated father Roberts birth would be around 1739 however there is no Robert born in the Lamesley area around this time.

This may be correct as I have had a Y-DNA test and have a very close match with a fellow Jim Blackburn, so much so that we should have the same surname. Jim has traced his line back to Ryton with his earliest being born around 1730. Records show that a number of Border Reivers changed their name to escape prosecution and Blackburn was one of the names adopted.

I have found a Robert Robson b.1739 in Ryton:

Name Robert Robson
Gender Male
Christening Date Jul 1739
Christening Date (Original) JUL 1739
Christening Place RYTON,DURHAM,ENGLAND
Father's Name John Robson

John in turn:

Name John Robson
Gender Male
Christening Date 11 Mar 1719
Christening Date (Original) 11 MAR 1719
Christening Place RYTON,DURHAM,ENGLAND
Father's Name John Robson

Again John in turn:

England Births and Christenings
Name John Robson
Gender Male
Christening Date 16 Feb 1696
Christening Date (Original) 16 FEB 1696
Christening Place RYTON,DURHAM,ENGLAND
Father's Name Michael Robson

I am not sure of this last one as the name Michael is not in our family line. Plenty of John's, Robert's, Thomas's William's etc but no Michael's. I have seen many Cuthbert's in the area but again this is not a family name in my line.

My Y-DNA test shows that I am 100% Norse and research reveals that around 800AD we went to the Orkney Islands then down through Ireland, Isle of Skye, Isle of Mann on to Dumphries, Scotland from there to The Borders and finally to Co.Durham.

I am confident with John Robson b.1760 but the others are a bit of a guess and as I said above the eldest Robert is probably wrong.

I would love to get back as far as Dumphries with names but I know that is unlikely however and info clarifying or expanding what I have found would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Brisbane, Australia and have to rely solely on the internet to find my family although I have employed Genealogists from time to time with reasonable results.

Thank you for looking at this and I look forward to any replies.

Regards

Chris

PS I have a fair amount of information (DNA & paper) on my Robson line that I am very happy to share.

I thought I knew County Durham but this a new place for me.

https://www.streetcheck.co.uk/postcode/ne110hs

Durham Records Online has a large collection of Robson names in County Durham. Use the filters for the area you want to help you search.

Speaking of places we know, I'd suggest checking this too. https://quicksold.co.uk/area-information/ne110hs

I found information about my current place that I haven't seen anywhere before.
