If you are trying to trace further back
Thomas Hull, born October 26, 1885, died in Windsor on January 2, 1945, the husband of Alice (nee Gibbons), and the son of Thomas Hull (mother's name unknown).
HULL, THOMAS       MMN HOUSEMAN
GRO Reference: 1885  D Quarter in BLACKBURN  Volume 08E  Page 421
Yet to find a Hull/Houseman marriage but perhaps Thomas' mother had been married before - so she married under her widowed name but her maiden name is on Thomas' birth registration.  ALso yet to find a baptism for Thomas 1885.

This Thomas had siblings

which should make him findable on the census to find mother's forename.

I suspect Thomas may not have been Thomas' father's name.  1891 Census in Blackburn has Thomas Hull, aged 5, at home with his parents, James, aged 34, a bricklayer, born Weaton, and Mary, aged 33, born Staining(?). Siblings are Elizabeth, Sarah, and Alice.

Thomas and Alice are living in Winnipeg in the 1911 Census, with no children yet born to them. Thomas indicates he immigrated in 1909 and Alice in 1911.  He is noted as a bricklayer.

There's a lot of genealogical info on canadiana.ca. I'm just trying to find the link between the Hull family & my family as there is a strong DNA link, but no family history forthcoming from the Canadian side - so frustration!
Are you able to give us a clue as to what surnames you are trying to connect to the Hull family? This will  help deciding which lines to pursue.

Thomas' complete WW1 military file has been digitized by Library and Archives Canada and is free to view at this link. It will be VERY slow to download.

Eileen, this is brilliantly helpful - thank you so much.  I will work through these details and see if I can link him back to my family somehow.

I really appreciate your help.  J

Josey - thank you very much indeed for this.  I am simply trying to link back to a surname I recognise in my tree (which goes back to 1600 or so in most branches)

With your help and that of Polarbear & Eileen, I think I have a lot more to go on.

Many, many thanks all of you.  J :)
