William Lygo/Lygoe/Lago/Lagoe bapt/parents?
« on: Saturday 16 December 17 11:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I've been looking for awhile and wondering if any one can see any other bapt for my 9th grt grandfather.
I have him as marrying Mary Strong 8 Apr 1670 Boylestone, Derbyshire. Both are listed as resident of Dovebrige, Derbyshire but I assume this to be a transcription error of Doveridge which is only 6 miles to Boylestone.

William is listed as William LAGO but going back from my grt grandmother Lygo, the name has been recorded as Lygo (Main) Lygoe/Ligo/Lago/Lagoe/Lythgoe.

I cant see any bapts for Either William or Mary Strong but there is a bapt in Coleshill, Warwickshire for a William Lagoe 23 Aug 1640. I know its not exactly close but its not too far for people to travel during their lifetime and I cant see any record which would fit a Marriage or Infancy deach for this William so its a possibility.
Any help would be appreciated.

I can't really help you but I have the same dead end at William Lago/ Mary Strong. I posted on here in November 2016 regarding this as I couldn't find any records much for Boylestone, Scropton or Tutbury before 1660-80 and wondered if anyone knew when the records started. I got no reply though.

My copy of the Boylestone PR's starts in 1661 and includes the marriage you mentin...and my contact at Derbyshire Records Office at Matlock suggests that the earlier records are virtually unreadable. It is often possible to use Bishops Transcripts as a back up....but I'm guessing that if there are any they will be at Lichfield??   for most of us the 17th Century is Brick Wall time!..unless you happen to be TV personality..in which case you can get back to anyone you want, like William the Conk! After about Edward III we're all related to each other anyway!!

Willing to research Derbyshire ancestors (free of charge) have a large number of derbyshire parish records. and access to many others including full Census including 1911....
