Carnaby famiky from Thurso
« on: Sunday 17 December 17 16:07 GMT (UK) »
This post related to an earlier topic on lieutenant Alexander Carnaby and Janet Downie my 4x great grandparents. It's possible Alexander was born in Tweedmouth, Northumberland in 1747 as there is no birth records for him in Scotland.
To my delight someone submitted a long article on the Carnaby family from Thurso to the Cathness Family History Sociiety, even a painted portrait of Alexander Carnaby in his uniform taken from a Freemason website, he was master freemason as well as a merchant soldier, and overseer of a Salmon fishing company. He had 9 children to Janet Downie who appears to have been born on Bo'ness Midlothian. I have been unable to find any marriage or death records on Scotlandspoeple for Alexander, his wife or 8 of his 9 children. Lieutenant William Carnaby, Captain George Hogarth Carnaby, (merchant) lieutenant Benjamin Carnaby soldier and shipbuilder, John Sinclair Carnaby (my 3x great grandfather) soldier and merchant in salmon fishing company. All siblings born between 1780 and 1801. If anyone can help locate any death/burial records that would be very helpful.

William Carnaby reportedly died aged 42 at Thurso in April 1822.
George Hogarth Carnaby on 26 March 1867 at Thurso aged 71.
Forbes Carnaby on 8th November 1857 at what looks like Free Church, Ferintosh.
Alexander Carnaby on 20 July 1866 at Shore Street, Thurso.
