A sad but good find William.

At least it tells us who Fred is, I think.

Hope what happened didn't contribute to Maria's death in any way.
Oddly, there are two Maria Jervis deaths in Southwark in the space of a few months. In Sep qtr 1897, and then the March 1898 one mentioned by Silvercup. Both of them aged 43.

I would say that is one mystery solved.

Emily would only be a few months old and Maria changed her statement.  :(

Wow! Percy Roffey was thought in the family to be Emily's uncle but of course cousin would make sense! She was fond of him apparently. Hopefully he was nicer than Frederick.

Amazing, thank you for this.

I am sorry Silvercup, we are inclined to go off to  other things and you must know this but interesting to see that George Smith was an adopted son to the other witness, George Thomas Teagle.

I know. That is another mystery which the family would like to solve. Was going to start a thread about that in the future once I'd got to the bottom of Emily's secrets!

George Thomas Teagle or Tom Teagle as he was known was supposed to be my gt grandfathers real father but I saw the adopted son thing too. legend has it that he took his mother's maiden name smith when older as he hated his father but the census defies this!
