KATOWICE finding out which parish a family member is buried in.
« on: Monday 18 December 17 13:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for the burial place of my grandmother, the records office have told me I need to contact the parish responsible for the area and then ask the parish to check the books.

My grandmother was Cecyila Malarz (was Ptok) she passed away 18.12.1963 at Agnieszki 10, Katowice, she was catholic.  I don't know how to find out which parish she belonged to, any ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

Kelly Malarz

Is there a Polish Embassy in your country? (You don't say where you are, in your profile)

I'd contact them, at least for an address for the Catholic Church in Poland to write to.

Or they may have a better idea of how to find out.

Agnieszki 10 is in the suburb of Józefowiec in Katowice.
Józefowiec is also the parish.

RC Parish Church:
Parafia św. Józefa Robotnika

There is a cemetery in the south east of the parish:
Cmentarz parafialny (Parish cemetery) (Józefowiec)
address: Józefowska 145, 40-145 Katowice, Poland

You could try contacting the Polish Trust Association:

Polish Trust Association

Tel. 020 8748 1120 (The office is open Mon-Fri from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm).

Established in 1956, the Trust is managed by the Polish Social and Cultural Association. It deals with bequests, transfers pension and retirement funds to Poland and provides translations of official documents, including marriage and birth certificates.

and probably your nearest Polish Consulate should be contacted in preference to the Polish Embassy.
