There are a lot of Lofts on FreeREG for Sawston, and a burial for a Mercy Lofts in 1727-Sawston.
Regards.

Regarding Lofts families in South Cambridgeshire. There are variations in the spelling due to local dialect so also check Loughts, Louts, Lowts - indeed any name beginning with Lo. Believe me it can be a nightmare. My family name is Loates In one Gt Shelford family Thomas Loughts had a daughter christened Sarah Loats in 1776.  She lived only a few days being buried as Sarah Lowts. There are many like this in the villages around Cambridge. Be Lucky.

Hi Westoboy

Many thanks for your reply, Like you I am descended from a Great Shelford family the Cornells who lived in the same village for 250 years, but like most families when you start tracing back your family comes from most of the viliages around. I have found that the biggest Black Holes, are in the Cambridge City parishes and also in Sawston.

My mother's side of the family were Ireland and London, nut I alsi found a link to the Ely and fen country parishes, so I have Cambridgeshire links on both sides.

Regards

David
