Thanks again, jamjar, rosball, Aussie1947 and wivenhoe. Great information, which I shall enjoy following up.

Some info on Agnes jnr - unfortunately Victorian BMD site is down just at present so relying on other sources.

Marriage, 1883, reg Victoria #1014
Agnes PATERSON, William AITKEN

Death: 1921 #6130
Agnes AITKEN, 67,
Death Place:   Hotham, Victoria
Father's name:   Wm Pattison
Mother's name:   Agnes Heard (sic)

PROV has digitised papers of administration of her estate as she died intestate.
prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=54

Agnes AITKEN, married woman,  died 10 April 1921, residence: 64 Alfred St, North Melbourne.  Information given by William AITKEN (residing 64 Alfred St) states that she owned two houses, the one she was living in, another in Kensington and two blockes of land. Her relations and next of kin are named as William AITKEN (husband) and children: Viola AITKEN and  Bertie AITKEN, Metropolitan Fire Station, Hoddle ST, Abbotsford Viola and William are resident at 64 Alfred St.

She also left a "testamentary document" - a will which was not signed, so not valid - leaving the houses and land to her daughter Viola May Pearl AITKEN.

I need to wait for BDM Vic to be available again, and I did look to see if Agnes could be Williamina.....but....

the estate document,  for William PATERSON, d. 1899   Unit #908 page 16 of 30 ....has -
" ....Agnes AITKEN wife of William AITKEN OF 116 Boundary Road North Melbourne....."

"...Ruby AITKEN daughter of the deceaseds daughter Welhelmina AITKEN ..........."

"..Wilhelmina AITKEN having predeceased the said deceased..."

So is there Wilhelmina AITKEN deceased at 1899, and mother of Ruby......and........Agnes AITKEN  d. 1923 wife of William?

Both married an AITKEN?

Thanks, Judith and wivenhoe.

I have to stop looking at this now as I am going to be far too busy for the next few days and won't be able to look at the 'pooter. But I will look properly after Christmas.

Have a great Christmas and New Year, everyone.
