Mystery solved. James junior (who married Rebecca) was born in herts as was his father. They moved back to Worcester sometime between 1881 and 1891 census, when they are back where James junior’s mum, Catherine, came from. Her birthplace is on census.

Just googled Acton beauchamp ... it’s right next to suckley in Worcestershire. That’ll be the connection, as they move to suckley before 1891.
Hereford has been mistranscribed as herts.

Still wonder why they went back to a completely different part of Essex to where Rebecca came from though?

Fully agree. Great bit of research that has helped me to fill in a story.  I must somehow get copies of the 1891 and 1911 census for Acton Beauchamp etc. I would also like to contact those family tree-holders on Ancestry ... there could even be relatives alive today who know more about the Worcester Farm ....

Just to let you know ... The landed gentry that owned the Worcester farm had their ancestral home in Bishop's Frome... a stones throw away from Acton Beauchamp and that is probably how James got the tenant farmer's job. Like you, still wondering how James met Rebecca. In 1911 she was still home working for her father's business. Probably never know now
