George Dunbar Birth about 1840 Ontario, Canada

Looking for George Dunbar

Parents were

John Dunbar

1797–1851(death date approximate) Likely in Canada

Margaret Bain

1798–3 JAN 1890  Wroxeter, Huron County, Ontario, Canada

We see George in Brantford, ON in the 1861 census, single and occupation given as Head Cabinet Maker.  However, there seem to have been two Dunbar families in that area at the same time.

Have been unable to find a marriage or death or anything definitive in later census documents.  We know at least one sibling, Margaret 1836-1918 moved to Michigan. An online tree suggests George may have followed but it could be a different George as there are no supporting documents.

Hi,

This appears to be the family in Brantford in 1851/2.  Mother Margaret is a widow.  Children are John, James, William, Alexander, Isabella, Margaret and George.

This gives a bit more information about the family - to help with the search.

This must be the 1861 census you mentioned... in Brantford again.

Mrs Dunbar with children Margaret, William, George and Alex.

Those are the two records I found.  Most of the family seems to disappear after the 1861 document.  In 1871 and 1881 I found his mother, Margaret, living with a different daughter's family.  She passed in 1890, likely at the home of her daughter Isabella and her Husband George Barnard.

Isabella Dunbar Barnard and husband George are buried  Wroxeter Cemetery  Wroxeter, Huron County, Ontario but no sign of any other Dunbar in that Cemetery that I came across.
Have you located an obituary for Isabella which might give more info on siblings.   ???

FIND A GRAVE

Isabella - 1833 - 30 May 1917 (cause of death accident) and George Barnard 1835 - 1922

1871 - Margaret Dunbar Sr. living with Sidney Shaw and Margaret Shaw (presumably her daughter Margaret Dunbar) and family in Howick, South Huron.

1881 - Margaret Sr with Isabella and George Barnard and family in Wroxeter, North Huron.

Seeing the Shaws in Bay Michigan from 1880 census onwards...  don't see any Dunbars listed with them or near them on the censuses.

I wonder if this is brother Alexander in 1881 in Southampton Village, North Bruce? In 1851/2 he is a carpenter.  1861 he is a wagon maker.

1881 - this Alexander Dunbar is a carpenter.

If so - here is the family in the same place in 1891
