There was no census in 1939! ;D
The 1939 National Register, which was kept updated as the NHS Register until 1980(?), doesn't show place of birth?

Can't see anything on Naturalisation Papers, both on Ancestry and The National Archives?
He was of the right age for WW1 service - but nothing found so far.

Think I might have to go back to the family on this? :-\

3 snippets of information today - but I can't verify them (yet!)?

TNA has a document in FO 383/84, dated 1915:
Scandinavia: Prisoners, including: Herlofson's whaling station at Harris: exclusion of foreigners from region.

included is: Carl Gustav Carlsson, Swedish sailor in prison in Middlesbrough, sentenced to six months hard labour for having remained on shore after dark in a prohibited port: investigation into circumstances, and request for possible release.

Secondly, a tree on Ancestry has the right Carl, married to the right Hannah, with a CR10 (Merchant Seaman's) document and a photo.
The person who submitted them has the same surname as my cousin, so it's probably correct?

Finally, another tree on Ancestry has his full name as: Carl Gustav Hilmer Karlsson.

These all need investigating, bit I thought it best to mention them ;D

I had this guy yesterday. I can see why they might have thought it was him, having the same dob, but he died in Sweden in 1961.

He is recorded as moving to 8 Mary Street, Ashton Gate, Bristol in 1913.
He was a seaman.

The 1913 date looks as though it maybe incorrect as he was married in 1911.
