Need to explore all avenues Lazarus.

Why do you believe GFL was Margaret Maria LONG's sister?  What were her birth and marriage dates in Ireland?

A George Fredk. LONG was secretary of COOPER and LONG’S Tribute company of Huntly in Sep 1873, with an office in Sandhurst.  Possibly associated with mining shares?
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/88268380

I notice the birth of one HENDY child was recorded at Huntly.

Also, a Geo LONG and Lavinia WILSON had a son named Henry at SHURST in 1873. Reg #5338
I suspect this Sandhurst is now Bendigo?

Hello Cando
You may have made some important discoveries.
My grandmother was Georgina Ann Charters 1878-1967 d/o Clarence Hooper Charters and Madeline Sarah Hendy. It is my understanding that Georgina was born Huntly, as was Alecia Hendy
Madeline was a daughter of Thomas Hendy and Margaret Maria Long. ( ? likely sister of George Frederick Long).
Madeline died a young woman following the birth of a brother for Georgina.
Georgina was reared by her Hendy grandparents.
I inherited a poem " Rambling Thoughts" signed GFL. It is all about the Hendy family. I can send you a copy should you be interested. Given the poet GFL,s intimate knowledge of the Hendy family , I deduced that he/she was a likely family connection. George Frederick Long fits that scenario.

I know that my grandmother lived in Huntly or nearby, not far from Sandhurst/Bendigo.

George Frederick Long was an accountant .It makes sense that he might have been connected to the company at Huntly with an office at Sandhurst.

I note that the Trove article quoted from the Bendigo Advertiser 22 Sep 1873 cites George Frederick Long as secretary of Cooper and Longs Tribute Company at Huntly. This has to be him.

That is the death. of Margaret Maria ( Long) Hendy 27 Jul 1893 at Raywood , father Robert Long and mother Sarah ( Hill).
Same parents for George Frederick Long.

George Frederick Long = Rosette Lavinia Wilson 1872 (second marriage).
Clearly their son Henry born 1873 Sandhurst

I think you might have cracked the mystery.
I hope I have answered all queries.

Many thanks.

Rex

Thank you Essie.
I believe that is "my" George Frederick Long , secretary of Cooper and Long Tribute Company of Huntly.
Known family connections at Huntly via Sandhurst/Bendigo.
A son  Henry was born and died 1873 Sandhurst R/N 5336 and 2456.

Thanks

Brilliant thank you Cando.
Fits with his profession of accountant.
I had also noticed the Tennyson St East Malvern address on at least one other record.
