Brighton Street in 1841
« on: Wednesday 03 January 18 20:41 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone read the street name on this 1841 census please?

It's quite unusual to have had the street name noted, but I cannot work it out! My gx5 grandparents Friend and Elizabeth Paine are living at no.2. I think it's central Brighton in The Lanes area if that helps - later on they lived on Meeting House Lane and Poplar Place.

Thanks,
Katherine

I was wondering about something like Chinter Gardens   :-\ :-\

 The first two letters look just like the beginning of Charlotte don't they?   :-\

Chuters gardens? :-\  :-\

I think it's Chesters Gardens.

That is mentioned in the description of the enumeration district on page 1 of the set of images at Ancestry,  I'm not sure how you find it at FindMyPast.  I can't figure out the rest though.

Yes, I think Gardens. My first thought was also Clintons, but now i'm thinking Chuters or Chutens  as the second letter might be an h (looking at Charlotte), and the enumerator is quite good at dotting the i's...

Chesters Gardens. As daisypetal says, it's clearly written as that in the description of the enumeration district.

Edit see reply #11 ::)
