Narrowing down marriage entry from 2 possibles
« on: Friday 05 January 18 23:37 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to order the marriage cert for John Woods and Frances Green nee Warden who married in Norwich sometime between 1851 and 1871.

I've found 2 possibles - Sept 1864, Norwich, 4b 245 and Sept 1867, Norwich, 4b 181 - but they aren't the only people marrying each time and the first entry has 5 people on the page rather than 6 which is really confusing! I think in the 1867 entry the other couple Sarah Young Lakeman and George Fidler married judging by the 1871 census and probate record, but then there's no guarantee that that John Woods and Frances Green are my ancestors.

Is there any way to narrow it down or do I just have to buy both certificates?

By that, are you saying that Frances Green was a widow when she married? If so, I think you may be able to state that you only want the certificate if it says that or if her father was ....... Warden.

That's a big time span.  Do you have them on the 1861 census - were they married at that time or with their previous spouses?

That would make more sense! On Ancestry there's also a Hannah Lynch as well as those 4!

So you need to see if you can find Alfred Hook in 1871 and hope he is with a Frances as that would eliminate that marriage.

Whoops yes sorry 1851 was a typo - they married between 1861 census and 1871 census.
