Prisoner of War Records WW1

Hi,
My name is Debbie, My grandfather Frederick Charles White (born Pinkneys Green, Maidenhead November 13 1898) served in The Tank Corps in  WW1. He told my grandmother and cousins stories of when he was a prisoner of war but we can't find any record of this. He said that the Germans made him speak German, if he spoke English he would be beaten! His service number was
304722. He enlisted in 1916. I would really appreciate any information. Thanks

Have you tried the Red Cross Archives of Prisoners of WW1?  It is fiddly, but worthwhile if you find them.  Not everyone is on them though.  My cousin didn't turn up and he was at a camp in Germany and was captured in March 1918.

The 1st husband of my Great Aunt was taken prisoner in October 1914.

His Medal Index Card is annotated P.O.W.
I have recently found his Army Discharge Papers dated February 1919 where he made a statement about his internment - quite harrowing as he was held on Reprisal in German occupied Russia.

Could not find him in the Red Cross Archives.

Have you obtained his Service records, they are available on Findmypast and should also be on Ancestry. I can see no mention of him being a POW, he applied to extend his service, which I think  would have been unlikely had he been a POW, but I may be wrong.

We do have some records but they are difficult to read in some places. He did extend his service and my cousins seem to think he had nothing to come back to at the time. Thanks for your help.
