Thanks Josey.
Happy to do that. Just wondered if there was any other way of seeing it!

Just added an edit to my past post....

AND AN EDIT to this post   ::)
An ancestry tree gives the witnesses to 1882 marriage as  Mary Anne and Joseph Hyldon so someone has to have seen the certificate or parish register entry.....

 Josie,
St. John's is listed variously as Grimsby and Cleethorpes (the two being more or less inseparable), although I would favour the parish of Great Grimsby.

Sadly the only 2 Grimsby parishes listed on findmypast are Grimsby St Andrew & Grimsby St James, no Cleethorpes.

Huge thanks for trying, josey.
The Hyldon witnesses certainly make sense, as from my initial post.

The next step in this search for Mary Ann Dawson's parents:
I now have the marriage certificate for her marriage to David Dunton, St. John's church, Clee, Lincs,  23 July, 1882.
Her father is listed as William Dawson (deceased), Butcher. I now at least have him (assuming the information is correct), but would like to find Mary Ann's mother and/or siblings.
I thought this might narrow things down a bit, but am still struggling. I can't seem to find him on a census, and would have thought he would have been in at least 1861, if not 1871, assuming he was a butcher at those times.
Can anyone help?

Thanks.

The free index for the 1939 National Identity Register on Find my past has a Mary A Dunton living in the Cleethorpes area and born 1864. If you look at it you'll get an actual date if birth which would help to get her actual birth date.

Thanks Gibel.
Unfortunately I'm not a subscriber to that site, and so don't have access, and I know from a previous enquiry that it is not allowed to post 1939 information in public forums.
I do find it strange with the information about her birthplace and father that there doesn't seem to be a listing on the earlier 2 censuses I mentioned. The only William Dawson, butcher, that had any possible relevance with places in her life is one in Louth, Linc's., but he is still alive in 1891 and 1901, and there is no sign of a Mary Ann on the 1871/81 censuses with that family.
I suppose it is always possible that she made up the information on the marriage certificate...
