Cudney, Bathsheba
« on: Saturday 13 January 18 02:50 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please expand on the above Bathsheba Cudney b 24 Jul 1829 died 11 Mar 1907 who married John B Goring about 1849 at Niagara on the Lake.   They had 5 children
Mary Ann
Melina Jane
Frederick Augustus
Almeda
Catherine Adeline

Bathsheba's parents who I want to expand on are Ezekiel Cudney (and possibly Mary).   I have several unlinked Cudney's in my tree.

I am in Australia and do not have access to Word Heritage Ancestry.

Thanks
Judy

Can't see anything so far. Death certificate gives no clues.

2001 message board post

Anne Kerlin married Ezekiel CUudney Jr.   Ezekiel Cudney Sr (1765-1815) was a NB Loyalist who settled in Niagara circa 1800. The son bought 300 acres in Grantham Twp in 1815 and this land was owned by descendants until the late 1880's. Ezekiel & 15 kin are buried in Grantham & Niagara Twps, Lincoln Co.

I saw the surnames as you suggested, but my Ann Cudney married Frederick A Goring, so that death date would not be her.

I am not sure that the Ezekial Cudney mentioned with parents Ann Kerley is the same one, as many years ago, Canadian relatives (no longer with us) gave me the information I have.

The Cudney's I have - mostly unattached are

Cudney, Ann - born 17 July 1816, died 8 Feb 1865, married to Frederick August Goring b 25 Dec 1812, Niagra Lincoln Country, Ontario CDA died 1 Jan 1877, Zion United Cemetery, Windham Twp, Norfolk
Cudney, Bathsheba - b 1828 died 11 Mar 1907, married John B. Goring b 5 Sep 1824, Niagara, Lincoln Country, Ontario, CDA, died 7 Nov 1903
Cudney, Ezekiah - married Mary. and had Bathsheba
Cudney, James - married Mary, and had Ann

Thanks for your help Sandra, maybe I should look for some Goring relations in Canada on this site and see if they can fill me in.    My forebear in particular Francis Goring 1755-1842 was also a loyalist - so the name is well known.

Have you had a look at the Library and Archives Canada War of 1812 collection?
https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/war-of-1812/Pages/list.aspx?Surname=Cudney&

How about the marriage notice for Ann Cudney and Frederick Goring 1837?

I found an obituary for Frederick A. Goring in the Globe and Mail newspaper... 9 Feb 1912, page 16.  Have you seen it?   It says he died at his home in Niagara Township on the morning of Feb 8.   It says he was born at the farm.  He lived there for nearly 58 years.  He was the son of the late John B Goring.  In recent years, he had been engaging in contracting work.  He had an interest in fruit growing and his farm was very successful. He had mining interests in Porcupine district and was a large shareholder in the Queenston Quarry company.  He had been elected president of the Lincoln County Conservative Association several times.  For 15 years, he was connected with the Frontier Dragoons - he was honorary Captain. He was Reeve of Niagara Township for several terms and in 1902 was Warden of the County.  He was survived by his widow (no name given), sons Arthur and Charles, daughters Miss Cora and Mrs O E Stringer (of Toronto).  Burial with military and masonic honours.

I expect there are obituaries for the Cudneys and Gorings in the Niagara papers.  Perhaps you could contact the local library to see if they can find any obituaries/articles/notices of major anniversaries (often list many family members).

I had not seen that RK, in fact I didn't have a death date for him.   It seems he married twice.

I doubt our library would have any information as I live in a country town called Bendigo, in Victoria, Australia.  But I was given a list of information I am wading through.

Thanks anyway.
