Margaret Wickens
« on: Sunday 14 January 18 00:01 GMT (UK) »
Who is this woman? Any parents?
At 10 years she appears in 1881[R11, 771, p. 8] as the granddaughter living with my g.g. grandparents at Littlewick Rd., Horsell, Surrey.
I found her again working as a maid at age 20 in 1891 [RG 12/5, p. 26 at 3 Lauderdale Rd., Paddington]

The new GRO Index indicates her birth was illegitimate (jun.qtr.1871 Basingstoke) as Margaret Ruth Wickens - so presumably her mother was an unmarried daughter of your g.g. parents.

Mother of Margaret was possibly Ruth Wickens, b 1843, Aldermaston, Berkshire?

That about Margaret sounds quite reasonable. Ruth is the 6th out of 11 kids of Joseph and Mary Ann Wickens. Is there anything else about this rather blank name Ruth that you can add?
I appreciate your help on Margaret.

All I can add is that the Birth Certificate won't show a father's name (otherwise it would have been on the GRO Index?).
But it will confirm the mother's name.

There is a slim chance that a baptism entry on a parish register might show a father's name?
