CWGC Appeal for relatives of 2nd Lieut Thomas Guthrie

CWGC appeal for relatives to locate the next of kin for soldiers who fell in war. Could you be connected to Second Lieutenant Thomas Guthrie ?  Second Lieutenant Thomas Guthrie of the Cameron highlanders died 27 June 1918.

FIND A GRAVE

Thomas died 27 June 1918 -  aged 24 years -  Cameron Highlanders. Son of John Guthrie (Late).

Burial -  Craigton Cemetery  Glasgow, Glasgow City, Scotland

This headstone inscription seems to show that his brother also died in WW1 - Stuart/Stewart Guthrie - Pvt 51 st Canadian ???  Killed in action at Ypes - 26 September 1918, aged 20 years.

Thomas Guthrie  4 Elizabeth Drive Cardonald Glasgow - 2nd Lieutenant 6th Cameron highlanders - died 27 June 1918 at Brighton testate.  Confirmation granted at Glasgow 6 th February to Lilias Clarinda Mabel Bennie or McIntosh 1276 Paisley Road West Glasgow his aunt Executrix nominated in  will or deed dated 17 March 1917 and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Lanark 20 January 1919 - value of estate - £542  18 s 7d.

There are Canadian Attestation Papers for Newton Bernard Guthrie - 29 September 1894 - Glasgow Scotland - Residence Alberta College Edmonton - regiment number  911282 - bank clerk - presbyterian - wife Mrs Faye Guthrie Killan Alta Canada. Had previously served about 3 months with the 35 th central horse (June - July 1914 - volunteers)
Made his declaration - 29 February 1916 - sailed from Halifax - per SS Southland - 31-10-1916
Lance Cpl Guthrie - theatre of war France - date of service 18/6/1917
196 battalion (Western Universities)
Latest addres C/O Mr Buchanan - 10540 - 126 th Street - Edmonton
Admitted convalescent hospital Woodcote Park Epsom - 18 January 1918 - 2 WGH Manchester ? - gun shot wound - left thigh flesh. Discharged 8-5-1918 to 2 CCD Bramshott
Many more entries 1916/1917
Discharges from service 18/18/1918
Has a son bernard Guthrie - 7 months. States father and mother are not living.

19 January 1918 - Wound not severe. he was gassed. General condition is not good. Marked Tachycardiac cerebral ? No duty.

 brother Newton Guthrie - Killan Alberta - John's Regiment Number 437507
Attested Edmonton 26 July 1915 - Sailed from Halifax per SS Missanabie - 18/4/1916

Killed in action 29 September 1916

Medals and decorations went to sis-in-law Mrs Faye Guthrie (General Delivery) Alta.

Plaques and scrolls went to brother Newton Guthrie (General Delivery) Alta
