Just a word of caution. The castlegarden.org website is a wonderful addition to online ships list. But -- it contains arrivals for ports other than NY. So far, Philadelphia and Baltimore have been identified as the actual arrival ports of some of the ships listed there.
So you must be very careful - if you find an ancestor there, you will need to get the filmed passenger list to verify if the ship actually arrived in NY (Castle Garden) or elsewhere.
I'd also use Steve Morse's ONE STEP search engine to search both the online Castle Garden databases (which are not identical)
