His wife was Anne Kelihen not Anne Marsden ( unless it was transcribed incorrectly) and George was in the 14th Regt

George spent his adult life in NZ - I won't put all the details here - and was definitely married to Ann Marsden.  I think I will have to go back onto the NZ message board and try another tack.  I put a topic on this board as a long shot to see if anyone was researching the same branch of the family.  Thanks

Sorry.

Yes it is 'my' Maude.  She emigrated to NZ in 1898, married and died of an unmentionable disease! That is what caused the rumpus outlined in the newspaper at the time.  I do have all the paperwork relating to her.  Thanks for the tip.  Regards

So George and Charles were  great uncles and Maude great aunt, all born in Co Cork, emigrating to NZ in the early 1900s...

....who emigrated late 1800's??

So not on 1901 Census so!!

From experience of posting I was trying to be concise with the information I put in my post but not succeeded!  All I need to find out is whether George Martin Stewart was born in Limerick in the 1830s.  There are few, if any, records online so I thought a Rootschatter might have been looking at the same branch of the family and have been able to fill me in on their research.  I don't think I am going to find out anything from this part of the message board, so I have posted another query on the NZ board.
Thanks to all

Hi wscroley

... don't lose heart.   ;)
I have some information to add shortly to your enquiry on the New Zealand board for a George STEWART (whom I can confirm was born in Limerick) ... but having just read your postings here, I see you are seeking a man of this name, born in the 1830's ... and yet you haven't specified that particular, (or any), date range in your NZ query ???
You have also stated here that George STEWART was "definitely married to Ann MARSDEN" - and yet the only "evidence" of that marriage appears to come from a New Zealand Death Certificate ???

I will proceed with adding to your latest New Zealand thread ... and hopefully you can give some clarification there, with dates etc.    ;)

Hi,
I thought I would search by Martin.
Well well, guess what I found him!
I found a record from the RIC, he was 19 when he enlisted and the year was 1858.
Born in Limerick, works out to be born 1839ish
He was known as Stewart, Martin.
Martin Stewart.
When people left the RIC to go over seas they always put on their record where they went, it says AUST.
Doesn't say when. There isn't an image so we can't see any details.
I will send the record in PM to wscroley.
AND THEN...........I searched for his birth........
He was Baptised on the 2 Feb 1840
I am a member of Ancestry and all, well most of the Parish books are listed so it's easier to find.
If you go to the registers on line in Doon and Castletown, Tipperary and Limerick, Ireland you will see him.
This place matches up with the Tithe records for a George Stewart 1827.
I hope this is a help.
Maggsie

AND...........some siblings.........
If you look in the same Parish book..........
Anne 17 July 1835
Ellen 15th May 1838
Mary 12th July 1842
