David Jones Shoemaker, born in Bala 1795/7-ish
« on: Wednesday 24 January 18 19:08 GMT (UK) »
My GGG Grandfather was born 1795/7 in Bala (1842 & 1851 census)

He is listed as a shoemaker and had moved to LLanwddyn certainly by 1822 when he married Elinor, who was from Llanwddyn. The shoemaker trade continues through the next 2 generations. I wonder if he was born into it?

Does anyone have any details of his birth/baptism and his parent(s)?

I would really like to find earlier generations, but with a name like David Jones...research is not too easy!!!!

In anticipation,
Many thanks
Llanrhaeadr YM -Hughes, Morris, Richards
Llanwddyn -Jones, Richards
Llansilin -Hughes
Llangedwyn -Hughes
Hirnant -Thomas, Evans
Llangynog -Hughes, Evans
Penybontfawr -Hughes

Hi

I missed this ~

Two baptisms showing in Bala for your time frame:

Llanycil

25 May 1794
David son of Henry Jones and Catherine his wife.

25 March 1798 David son of David Jones (? Llidiardau) and Gwen his wife
(Llidiardau is NW of Bala but still in Llanycil parish)

Thanks Gadget..this is most helpful. The second of the 2 sounds more promising as the names continue in the generations. I don't suppose there is any information on marriages or any other siblings???? There seems to be generations of shoemakers and just wondering if there are any hints from the Bala side.

I'll have a look but these early records don't often give much info on occupation etc.

As far as I can remember when looking for my Joneses from Llanycil, the vicar switched to patronymics as well.

There appears to be another David and Gwen couple having children the same time as the Llidiardau ones. An entry just before David's has this other couple living Ty Hen.

No sign of a marriage of a David Jones and Gwen later than 1745 but, of course, they could well have married in another parish.
