"Cause of death" in 1895

Good Evening All,

I have a couple of queries regarding a "Cause of death" on a death certificate from 1895.

Can anyone tell me what "349.a." means please?

Also, the letters "M.R.C.S.E."?

The full cause of death reads as follows:

349.a. Pneumonia
3 Days
Complicated by childbirth
Certified by F.T. Wilkinson
M.R.C.S.E.

P.S. I wasn't sure whether to put this here (because the death took place in Aldershot) or in the Common Room

I can't answer for349.a but the other letters mean  F.T.Wilkinson was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons

Ah I see! Thank you very much Jebber! 

I thought it might've been referring to a local Coroner. I'm glad I asked now! So there would be no Coroner's Report to find.

I wonder what the "349.a." at the beginning of the 'Cause of death' means?

349.a. Pneumonia would seem to be a code and name for the disease. There are other mentions of it in Google search.

Look at the heading along the top of the 4th set of temperature charts.
