Carol - please accept my sincere apologies - I certainly didn't mean to miss you out.

I'm very grateful for all the help I've received over the past few days. It's been quite a week, and I suspect some more surprises will come in the near future.

Yesterday I received a photo of the row, taken in the 1960's, from West Berkshire Museum.
I can't post it because of copyright, but it is Pelican Terrace, Newbury.

This means that the lady is my 2xgreat grandmother Hannah Barlow nee Carter Cook (1839-1912), and not (as I had assumed for over 40 years) her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Barlow nee Coxhead (1867-1938) taken in the 1930's.

A massive thank you to all the restorers who blew the mist away, and especially to Carol and Gadget who spotted the proper date and person.

Ye of little faith  ;D

I was convinced as soon as I saw that she and her son, Edmund, had similar features and then I checked the censuses.

Just been doing some research on the censuses 1871 -> and I think it ties in with Steve:

I think the lady might be Hannah Barlow, b.c. 1839, living Pelican Terrace, Speenhamland, Newbury in 1901.

Gadget - I've told you before I can't do this recognition thing - it's probably got a posh syndrome name  :)

But I really enjoy matching the photos with the documentary evidence - That's what makes this such a great board.

It was only that I had just restored Elizabeth's photo that I realised they couldn't be the same woman. Gadget played a blinder by matching her up with family in the group photo...we get there in the end  ;D ;D

Thanks Malky - I particularly like what you've done with the reflection in the window.

When you think of the condition of my original post, it just shows what can be achieved - bringing the past alive, indeed.
