Abraham King b.c 1820 Shipdham Norfolk
« on: Monday 29 January 18 09:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I am looking into what happened to Abraham KING b. c1820 in Shipdham Norfolk

He married Lucy Tennant on 29.09.1844 in Shipdham and in 1846 they had a daughter Elizabeth. Abraham is named as father on the baptismal record.

Then things start to get difficult....

Lucy's next child is William Alma Sebastopol King b 1855 (quite a gap between children) and Lucy King does not put down a father's name on the birth certificate and she is classified as a Widow.

What happened to Abraham?

In the 1851 census, Lucy King (Widow) is living alone in Terrington St. John, Norfolk. Elizabeth can be found with her grandparents in Shipdham, Matthew and Susan Tennant.

In the 1861 census, Lucy is living in Watlington Norfolk with William and daughter Suzanna b.1858 and Elizabeth is still living with her grandparents.

In 1861, Lucy marries James Childs and in the 1871 census Lucy, James, William and Suzanna are all living together with the name Childs.

However, soon after this, William leaves Norfolk and settles in Staffordshire and takes back the King name.

All this background is to try and help answer what happened to Abraham King. From the looks of things, it looks like he is not the father of William and Suzanna in which case it looks like my family name is taken from someone who is not my ancestor.

That said, if anyone could help trace what happened to him, it would certainly help close one family mystery.

Many thanks in advance.

Abraham did appear to have a sister called Susanna, although in 1841 census Lucy's mother looks like she is called Susanna.

I see the birth details of William Alma Sebastapol King in 1855, in the trade or profession column Lucy has put 'single woman'
