Leominster area Baptism for an Albert Tongue or Hart 1869-1871 please
« on: Monday 29 January 18 17:06 GMT (UK) »
I have spent the last 10 years trying to break down this brick wall . I suspect my g grandfather Albert Edward price was actually Albert Tongue - I can find him in the 1871,1881 and 1891 censuses as Albert Tongue living in Leominster with his grandparents Edward and Mary Tongue however I cannot find any birth for him on GRO, Ancestry or Find my past . Any help would be much appreciated - Albert Tongue disappears by 1901 however Albert Edward Price appears . I suspect he is the illegitimate child of James Tongue who married Elizabeth Hart in 1876 and goes on to have 3 children with her . Elizabeth is only 14 and a servant on the 1871 census so she could be the mother or maybe not
Any help with a possible baptism or birth would be really appreciated

yes I have - been to the archives and seen that baptism - mistranscribed as father james but is William the father and does not fit in with later details . Sent off for the birth certificate as well to check but no :( I would have liked that one as it links in to the Scudamore family local gentry  :)

I think that if he was Albert Tongue he would be more likely to be the son of any sister of James Tongue rather than James.

I am more inclined with going with the Albert Edward Price son of William/James Price & Sarah Goode.
Marriage certificates are sometimes wrong when fathers name is supplied.  Maybe a DNA test would help  ;D

Albert Tongue the grandson of Edward Tongue in 1871 is aged 1 b Kington (1881: 12 b Kington).

Birth reg should therefore be in Presteigne or Kington reg districts (these were reorganised in 1870).
