Sophia Thomas b Stoke Lacy?
« on: Wednesday 31 January 18 09:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone know of any baptism records for Stoke Lacy from the 1810s-1820s or would baptisms have occurred elsewhere?

Cannot seem to find anything on any sites - my 3 x ggm, SOPHIA THOMAS was born in Stoke Lacy c1820, the daughter of John Thomas, farmer - I believe that she may have had a brother George

And that's as far as I can get

She married my 3 x ggf, WALTER PRICE in Llanelly, Brecs in 1847

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks
Rich

The 1847 parish marriage register in Llanelly shows her father John as a labourer rather than a farmer.

Residence of bride and groom at marriage: Cuckoo’s Nest.

Witnesses:

George Thomas (is this the supposed brother? Is anything else known about him?)
Eliza Hadlam/Hadlain?
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)

Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

Thank you for your replies

Eliza Hadlam is her husband's mother, my 4 x ggm

Struggling with the 1841 Census - nothing more known about George; he may be of no consequence

Sophia is listed as being born in Stoke Lacy on the 1851,1861,1871 & 1881 Censuses. She died in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire in 1884, aged 64 (?)

Is Stoke Lacy a small place?

Searching for "Thomas" born there brings up some in Llanelly that could be siblings.

Very small, although I've not been there but fully intend to

Perhaps someone with knowledge of the area can advise whether Stoke Prior could be a place of baptism for residents of Stoke Lacy

Cuckoo's Nest was a farm and smallholding in Clydach nr Llanelly, Brecs, according to an old RC post

The parish registers are at the Hereford County Record Office.  The LDS has microfilm but only some burials and marriages are indexed.  The film is only able to be viewed at an LDS family history centre or  affiliate library.  The same applies to the Bishop's transcripts.
