James Valder born Ash Kent about 1796
« on: Wednesday 31 January 18 22:58 GMT (UK) »
Please can someone look up the Parish Records for Ash Kent? I am looking for the birth record for James Valder. In the censuses he says he was born in Ash 1796 or 1797. He lived in London and Kent, and died in Elham 1884.
Many thanks

The only Baptism's I can see for Valder's within you time frame is a William to mother Sarah Valder No Father Shown. There are no James 10 years each way.

on the 18 Mar 1798 at , St Clement's ,Sandwich.

Ash is only about 5k from Sandwich.

As there is no Father shown Sarah's children may have been base born so your James may not have been baptised if she was his mum.

Hi
Not much luck either on the baptisms but there seems to be one big family at Ash.
James Valders PCC Will 9.4.1790 goes through most of them, for pages and pages and pages.
Sons Thomas and Frederick.
Grandson James Valder who gets quite a bit ,grandson Thomas s of Thomas and his sister Mary.
Granddaughter Ellen Sussannah Valder.

James Senior married to an Elizabeth Petley 16 Feb 1755
burial 22 .3.1790 from Erith  age 65 years
Children-Frederick 8.6.1755 Ash, William bapt 20.7.1756 Ash who became a tailor at Ash,Frederick bapt 5.9.1757  Ash ,William 10.11.1759,Daniel 9.12.1760 Ash m 8.5.1787 Miss Jane Goodson and possibly moved to Margate,Henry 22.8.1762 Ash

James bapt 15.2.1749  so James and Susanna Valder looks like a child from his first marriage with a burial 5.7.1788.
Thomas 13.11.1751 s of James and Susan.

They are all the same family (only one I can't spot is John Valder born 1780 schoolmaster).,so it looks as though your James is one of James's senior grandsons.
So sons Thomas 1751-16.6.1814 at Dartford,Frederick 1757,William 1759,Daniel 1760 and Henry 1762 (married Charlotte Hewin 8.5.1790 St Peter Thanet?)need checking out.

With regard to James Mother possibly being Sarah.

1851 Census has a Sarah Valder born c 1773 Sandwich, Unm, Lodging House Keeper, living at 6 York St, Broadstairs, Kent.

F/S has a Baptism for her 14 December 1773,St. Peter's Church, Sandwich, to DANL/ANN.
1841 she is born c 1776.

Thanks.
How would I find the original of the marriage James Valder to Elizabeth Ducker in St Luke, Old Charlton, Kent 19 Jul 1817.
 Familysearch has
Indexing Project (Batch) Number   M01551-1
System Origin   England-ODM
GS Film number   254596

Then I could find out if Elizabeth was a widow.

If the grandfather James died in 1790, my James wasn't born until 1796 or 1797. Perhaps he was a great grandson.  My James Valder was a silversmith in his early years suggesting he was well educated. He worked on The Wellington Shield  according to his obituary. It is very brief....

Canterbury Journal, Kentish Times and Farmers' Gazette - Saturday 07 June 1884
"The death is announced of Mr. James Valder, of Peene House, Newington, Hythe, in his 88th year. The deceased chased the portraits on the Wellington shield, presented by the Corporation of London to the late Duke of Wellington after the Battle of Waterloo. "

Hi
Yes your James was born 1786/7 and his dad must have been alive then but if could be that his Dad;s Dad James Valder senior ,a very wealthy man had already died in 1790.
James the grandfather may well have had more than one grandson called James.

Thanks. That was 1796/7. The records for St Nicholas, Ash next Sandwich, Kent seem to be missing on line.
