Divorce
« on: Friday 02 February 18 14:57 GMT (UK) »
Where will I find divorce records for my ancestor? The divorce of Elizabeth Curtin and Joseph Patrick Curtin may have been in UK or Ireland between 1897-1917 and probably before 1911. I am a member of ancestry but I cannot find any divorce records on their database.

It is also possible that they did not divorce.

Where did you last have them living on the census  :-\

Are you quite sure that they actually did divorce? Until comparatively recently it would have been an expensive and complex undertaking, beyond the purses of many couples.
Often one or more partner simply moved to another location, and either declared themselves single again, or, especially if they were trailing children in their wake,  widow/widower if undertaking another marriage.
It would not often be questioned in another area.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)
