That's interesting Lu, as those are the parents given on the tree I found, so looks as if that bit is correct.

... oops ... sorry Groom ... I had meant to acknowledge your earlier find.   :)

[Currently gasping for a nice cup of coffee ! ]   ;D

Ballydw ... you'll no doubt find the O'SHAUGHNESSY's on UK census ... I had a quick look - there's a puzzling entry for 1871 (Staffs. - Newcastle-under-Lyme), but birthplace of that Mary is wrong ??    And Patrick the father, is a coal miner ?     In NZ he was a "shoemaker" according to an electoral roll entry (though occupations can change over the years)  ?

Will leave you to search further.

The place that the owner of the tree I found on Ancestry has for 1881 is Wolverhampton Staffordshire, but as you say totally the wrong POB and the mother is Sarah. They then go on to have the family in Scotland in 1891.

.. [the coffee was "de-lishi-mo" ]  ;D

Here is the burial record (headstone inscription) for Patrick :

Patea Cemetery - Taranaki NZ :

Plot 10 :   ILMO Patrick O'SHAUGHNESSY - died 29 August 1914 aged 75 years.
ALSO, Mary,  the beloved wife of Thomas Matheson JACKSON, died 20 December, 1918 - aged 52 years.
   and >
Plot 11 :    ILMO - 44508 - Pte Thomas William [JACKSON]  beloved son of Thomas and Mary JACKSON.   d. 29 August 1953 aged 52 years.

Am assuming that Mary JACKSON shares the plot with her father, Patrick ?

... from memory, just the one electoral roll entry for Patrick in NZ ?
I'll go back and check ... and then post details here.

Had looked earlier for a death / funeral notice for him - as well as for a Probate file, but alas, nothing found.
