Looking for information about Jospehine Macfarlane (nee Kennedy)
« on: Monday 05 February 18 20:51 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to track down some information about my Nana.

Josephine(Josie) Kennedy was born in England on October 1st, I think 1935 and she had a twin sister.
She married my grandfather, Ian Greig MacFarlane and had 2 sons, Martin and Greig in New Westminster, BC.
I remember when she passed away my dad said they were going to spread some of her ashes in the Fraser River in New Westminster, and they were going to send some to England to be spread in a river she grew up near. I'm trying to find the names of her parents and sister but I haven't been able to find anything on ancestry! It's like she didn't exist until she married my grandfather.  ???

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Rootschat

The only one born in 1935 is this one

Births Jun 1935
KENNEDY    Josephine M   mmn  McGowan
Manchester N    8d   524

That doesn't fit with a 1st October birth though, and there were no other children with mother McGowan born then.

Did the twin survive and do you know her name (only tell us this if you know that she is no longer alive) ?

I'm not sure of her twin sisters name, and she definitely survived. My mom remembers her going by a shortened name like my nana did.

Are you sure about the 1st October, that would come under the December quarter on the birth registrations and I can't find any between 1930 and 1940 where two children had the same mother's maiden name.

Can I check - did she marry Ian G MacFarlane in England or Canada?

He was born in New Westminster, BC so they would've married after she moved to Canada.

Sorry for all the questions, but her and her twin's birth is proving difficult to find.

When did she come to BC and did she come alone?

My mom is pretty confident her birthday was Oct 1, as it was also the date I was supposed to be born. But something could be muffling her memory. Im pretty sure she passed away around 2003/2004, I know that I was in elementary school. I can't even find an obit or death record though which is making it incredibly hard to confirm dates.

I'm waiting for confirmation from my uncle on this. I believe she came alone, my Dad never had any stories about her parents but had tons to say about his dads parents. I'm assuming he didn't see them much, if at all. My Dad was born in 1960, so she had to have come over before then.
