Old photograph for ID
« on: Tuesday 06 February 18 15:51 GMT (UK) »
Here we have a large group pf people many wearing "boaters" There is a march/protest in progress with a mounted policeman followed by a banner that I can't decipher and a band. There may be a large barrel (or big bass drum) to the right of the band. Can anyone provide more information please? Could it be temperance related? I found it tucked into my grandmother's photo album a few years ago and scanned it. Unfortunately I no longer have access to the original.

Could it be this?
In The Times , Saturday, Apr 30, 1927; there is a notice that Colonel Wilfrid Ashley, MP. will preside at an Anti-Socialist, and Communist, Union Loyalty Demonstration, at Marble Arch, Hyde Park, on Sunday.

Thank you. This looks quite likely, it is certainly the right era. Well done guys for attempting to read the banner... any guesses about the last line?

Not sure about 1927 as the women in the background are wearing hats and dresses that look Edwardian - 1908-1911.

I think the B in Bill is obscured by a fold in the banner as is the E in Oppose. The unusual shape of the G in Licensing seems to match, as does the band and the man wearing a wide sash
