Looking for Martha Semken?
« on: Thursday 08 February 18 19:16 GMT (UK) »
Ive been looking for my 5th grt grandmother but dont seem to be having much luck.
Martha Semken married Henry Weston 12 Jul 1813 Hinckley, Leicestershire.
On the 1851 census she lists her birthdate as abt 1791 and birthplace as Shropshire.
Her burial in 1854 puts her birthdate as 1790.
I'm assuming 'Semken' is a variation or misspelling of Simkin, But I cant seem to find a Martha fitting this date.
The Closest I have found is a Martha Simkins bapt 6 Oct 1793 Clifton upon Dunsmore, Warwickshire. This isn't exactly close to Shropshire though.

My apologies for this, but:

I can see the marriage in Hinckley, with the consent of parents.

I cannot find a 1851 census entry for Martha Weston, born 1791 in Shropshire.

The only death registration for Martha Weston in 1854 is for Martha Elizabeth Weston aged 1.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Have you looked to see if anyone else with a similar surname was married at Hinckley around the same time?  You might be able to rustle up some siblings.  Who witnessed Martha's marriage?

Hi
For what it's worth -the Simkins family in Hinckley were William and Ann with a daughter Hannah born 1803 Hinckley and son William 1784.
There is a baptism for a William Simkin so William and Martha at Clifton under Dunsmore 22.9.1784
So the one you found seems to fit.
The second wife Ann Edwards was from Calthorpe Leicestershire when they married CUD 15.6.1790

Only Anne Edwards Which comes up in Leicestershire seems to be bapt in Willoughby Waterless, But goes onto marry there. Same with William, None around Clifton at a glance all further North around Kingsbury/Curdworth.

I'm assuming that Calthorpe is an error on the nearby Catthorpe, Leicestershire, Which straddles border with Clifton.
