Discon Family, Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon.
« on: Saturday 10 February 18 23:01 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on the Discon family from Ballinlough.

Thomas John Discon (my g-g-grandfather) was born in 1835 in Ballinlough.  His father was John Discon.  I have no other information on John Discon, his wife or family.

Thomas John Discon joined the 94th Regiment of Foot in Newcastle under Lyme on 22/12/1854.  During his time in the military he spent one year in Gibraltar and eight years in the East Indies.  He finally left the military on 20/2/1874, being discharged on a pension at Mullingar, Co. Meath.

While in Colchester, England he married Rosa Sampkin on 25/1/1868.  They had two children, Thomas John (b.1874) and Emily (b.1884).

Thomas John Snr died on 25/3/1899 in Ballinlough.  His wife Rosa died on 7/10/1910 also in Ballinlough.

If you can find any information on John Discon and his family or suggest possible sources, it would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

For reference here's the death of John Discon-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1899/05802/4641827.pdf

Only other Discon vital record in Castlerea district is birth of daughter Emily in 1884-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1884/02676/1985829.pdf

Therefore, it's possible John's family were either in a different area or surname is different spelling (Dixon or Diskcon perhaps?). I did find a marriage in 1871 for a Bridget Diskon but father's name is William.

Do you know what religion Thomas Discon was? Many R.C registers online-
